A 33-year-old man has been sentenced following an assault on a man in Glenavy in July 2022.

Today, Thursday 9th May, Stephen O'Reilly pleaded guilty and was sentenced at Laganside Crown Court.

The term of 31 months in total will be served concurrently for two counts of grievous bodily harm, common assault, and breach of a suspended sentence.

Detective Sergeant Cargin said: “At approximately 7.40pm on Saturday 16th July 2022, police received a report that a man aged in his 20s had been attacked with what is believed to have been a bladed weapon at a property in the Glenavy Parade area.

“The victim sustained serious injuries to his face, arms and hands and needed hospital treatment. Our thoughts today are with the victim of this vicious attack.

"I want to thank the victim and all involved for their support throughout our investigation. We hope that the sentence imposed will help the victim, at some level, recover from such an awful ordeal."

Detective Sergeant Cargin added: "I hope today's sentencing sends a message to anyone who believes that violence can go unpunished, that the Police Service is committed to apprehending perpetrators, and also demonstrates our commitment towards tackling violence against women and girls but also for any member of the public who find themselves in harm’s way."
