A DISTRICT: Kevin Kearney murder, Alexandra Park, North Belfast
05 Nov 2013
Detectives from Serious Crime Branch investigating the murder of 46 year old Kevin Kearney in north Belfast last month are asking for the public’s help to identify a BMX-type bike.
Mr Kearney’s body was found in a lake at Alexandra Park one day after he had been shot while taking his dogs for a morning walk a short distance from his home in Dunmore Avenue.
The Vortex Scorpion bike is one of a number of lines of inquiry currently being progressed.
Detectives are asking people in the Alexandra Park area if they recognise the bike or if they know who owns it.
They also want to know if anyone saw someone riding the bike or something similar in the area of Dunmore Avenue or Alexandra Park between 8am and 10am on the morning of the murder, Tuesday 8 October.
Police conducted more house-to-house inquiries on Tuesday 5 November in the area.
The officer leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Justyn Galloway, said: “The investigation is progressing but we still need assistance on specific points:
“We believe the Vortex Scorpion bike may have been used by someone involved in the shooting. Do you recognise the bike? Do you know who owns it? Did you see anyone riding it on the morning of Tuesday 8 October around Dunmore Avenue or Alexandra Park?
“If you can provide any piece of information, please contact us. Kevin Kearney’s family need answers and police need assistance to bring his killers before the courts.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact detectives at the Incident Room in Musgrave Street police station on 0845 600 8000.
