Explosion, Derry

05 Oct 2010

Police in Derry are appealing for information following an explosion at the rear of Da Vinci's retail complex, Culmore Road, on the morning of Tuesday 5 October.

Shortly after midnight a device within a Corsa car exploded outside a bank. A warning had been received by police just over an hour earlier and a cordon was in place.

There are no reports of injuries at this stage, however substantial damage has been caused to the retail complex and to the car.

Anyone who may have seen anything out of the ordinary or unusual in the Culmore Road area, particularly in the area of the Da Vinci's complex, is asked to come forward as soon as possible. Officers can be contacted at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000, or information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

Major traffic disruption is expected. Drivers should avoid the entire area, particularly Pennyburn Roundabout and the surrounding roads. Diversions are in place although motorists are asked to expect delays or seek an alternative route.
