GENERAL – Charges for prostitution and human trafficking

Detectives from PSNI's Organised Crime Branch have charged two foreign national females following an investigation into controlling prostitution and suspected human trafficking. Four searches have been carried out in the Belfast area.  The females aged 42 and 43 were charged with controlling prostitution and brothel keeping.  They will appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on 16 February.  As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
Both females were released on bail pending further enquiries in relation to a further offence of human trafficking into the UK.

The Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Dougie Grant stated "The investigation over the last 6 weeks has centred on suspected criminal gangs involved in controlling prostitution across Northern Ireland and the investigation underlines the PSNI's commitment to investigate human exploitation in Northern Ireland."

Investigations are ongoing in Northern Ireland and across Europe.
