Analysis Centre Objectives
The Analysis Centre is part of the Crime Operations Department. It headed by a Civilian Director (who reports to Assistant Chief Constable), supported by two Assistant Directors. Together these three post holders comprise the Analysis Centre management team.
The key operational objectives of the Analysis Centre are:
- To provide a service-wide (corporate) crime, incident and operational policing analysis service through the creation of appropriate systems and structures at local, regional and headquarters level.
- To develop, implement and manage the Police Analyst Development Programme and Continuous Professional Development programmes and to enable excellence by providing learning and development opportunities for all Analysis Centre staff.
- To develop methodologies and collect relevant information to enable the preparation of a range of excellent analytical products to support policing priorities.
A service-wide (corporate) service
A formal analytical structure has been implemented across the Service. This provides a clear and consistent corporate approach. It also allows local commanders the necessary flexibility to enable them to allocate resources against their highest priority problems.
The Police Service has adopted the National Intelligence Model (NIM) as an effective way of dealing with policing problems. The NIM is a business process that assists operational commanders to make resource allocation decisions. It ensures the right problems are being tackled. Police analysts, together with police officer colleagues, are responsible for generating the key reports that inform NIM decision-making.
