Assistant Chief Constable Alistair Finlay – Operational Support Department
ACC Alistair Finlay is responsible for the Operational Support Department. This includes Roads Policing, Tactical Support Group, Armed Response Units, Close Protection, Corporate Support, Central Statistics and Information Communications Systems.
ACC Alistair Finlay joined the PSNI in 2006 from Strathclyde Police and his first two years were spent in the Crime Support Department dealing with legacy issues - public enquiries, inquests and murder review through the Historical Enquiries Team and the Retrospective Murder Review Unit.
Born in Scotland, Alistair began his policing career with the Strathclyde Police in 1982. Initially based in the south side of Glasgow, during his 24-year career with the Strathclyde force, he undertook a range of roles in Glasgow, North Lanarkshire and Force Headquarters.
In 2006 he was promoted to Chief Superintendent and took responsibility for the Force Inspectorate prior to his appointment to PSNI in August 2006.
