Assistant Chief Constable George Hamilton - Criminal Justice Department

Assistant Chief Constable George Hamilton was appointed in December 2011 with responsibility for the Criminal Justice Portfolio. His responsibilities include:

  

  . Working with Criminal Justice partners on improving the Criminal Justice system for the
    benefit of  victims and witnesses;
  . Public Protection including chair of the Public Protection Arrangements in Northern Ireland;
  . Policing With Community 2020 Strategy;
  . Human Rights policy and strategy;
  . Community Safety;
  . Vetting and Firearms Licensing;
  . Professional Standards;
  . Service Excellence Strategy;

ACC Hamilton's policing experience started in 1985 when he joined the RUC. Since then he has a wide range of experience in a variety of operational roles.

Prior to his appointment as ACC Crime in Strathclyde in 2009 he had been Chief Superintendent and District Commander in B District (South and East Belfast).

He also served as Detective Chief Inspector and Detective Superintendent where he was involved in a number of high profile and complex investigations. He has also worked in England for three years on a range of training and organisational development projects.

ACC Hamilton holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Politics and Economics and a Masters in Business Administration. He is a member of the Institute of Directors and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Leadership Association.
