Mephedrone was a 'legal high' which could be purchased in 'head shops' or via the internet. The user experiences similar effects to cocaine and amphetamine.
It is a plant-food-type substance which has lately become popular as a designer drug.
The importation of mephedrone into the UK has been banned.
Mephedrone became controlled as a Class B drug on the 16th April 2010 meaning it is illegal to have, give away or sell. Possession can get you up to five years in jail. Supplying someone else, including your friends, can get you up to fourteen years in jail and an unlimited fine.
