Young Driver Scheme
Young Driver Scheme
The Young Driver Scheme aims to enable young drivers to gain a better understanding of the dangers and potential consequences of their driving decisions.
Young drivers who have committed a lower-end speeding offence in Northern Ireland may be offered the opportunity to participate in the Scheme - instead of a fine and penalty points on their driving licence. Drivers cannot volunteer to attend the Scheme.
The Young Driver Scheme is a road safety initiative by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, managed and delivered by AA DriveTech in collaboration with a2om Ltd.
To attend a Young Driver Scheme course, the following criteria must be met:
- You must be over 17 and under 25 years old on the date of the alleged offence.
- You must have received a letter from AA DriveTech inviting you to take part in Young Driver Scheme.
- You will need to use a computer with internet access.
- You will need to fill in an online questionnaire before you book your place.
- You must book and pay for your place and e-learning modules within 14 days of first communication from AA DriveTech.
- You must bring some official photographic identification. For example, a passport or driving licence photo card.
- You must complete a set of a2om e-learning modules within 28 days of successfully attending your workshop.
- You will be asked to complete a post-workshop questionnaire.
- You must meet and accept the scheme's terms and conditions
The Young Driver Scheme aims to:
- Encourage young drivers to reflect on their driving.
