Community Surgeries and Active Citizen Networks

Neighbourhood Officers carry out a number of Community Surgeries every month on the street, in local businesses and in other public places within Balmoral area. This is another opportunity for you to speak to us and make us aware of any issues or concerns you might have in your area. Officers will have Listen and Respond cards for you to take away and send back to us. There are also a number of Active Citizen Networks (ACNs) in place throughout the Balmoral area, which provide an opportunity for residents and members of the business community to meet with Neighbourhood Officers, allowing us to work together to resolve issues impacting on the local area.

If you would like more information on ACNs or Community Surgeries please contact the team at  NPTBalmoral@psni.pnn.police.uk

We did

Anti Social Behaviour We record and monitor reports made to Police, identifying and reporting offenders. We work in partnership with Belfast City Council and Community Groups, including Neighbourhood Watch and have established Active Citizen Networks to help reduce incidents. We target persistent offenders and work with local young people and youth groups, particularly in Finaghy and Ballynafeigh, to tackle nuisance behaviour, underage drinking and drug misuse.

BurglariesWe have increased high visibility patrols with additional hours allocated to address burglaries in the area. We plan specific anti-burglary operations, including in plain clothes, and work in partnership with other Police teams, concentrating on offenders and identified hot spot areas. We carry out leaflet drops with Community Workers and liaise with Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators in the Balmoral area.

Hate crimeWe have dedicated Minority Liaison Officers within our team to follow up, investigate and support victims. We liaise with other agencies and local Community Groups and have established Active Citizen Networks with ethnic minority communities to help encourage the reporting of crime and increase contact with Police.

Visible Presence on Lisburn Road, Ormeau Road + Finaghy and Boucher shopping areasWe have increased preventative beat and mobile patrols in these areas. We have also planned dedicated hi-visibility operations to provide reassurance to the public and local businesses. This also includes patrols by our Part Time Officers in specific areas.

Traffic/Parking problems We have given specific attention to problem areas, which have been highlighted to us by the public. Neighbourhood Officers, assisted by our District’s Road Policing Unit, have issued Fixed Penalty Tickets where required.
