We did

Anti Social Behaviour Belfast City CentreUp to the end of January 2012 the number of reports for ASB has continued to reduce and we are currently experiencing a 16.9% reduction. Much of the problems are reported around licensed premises and we have met with licensees in an attempt to reduce these incidents that may be associated with their patrons

Visible Presence in the City CentreThis continues to be maximised through high visibility foot and cycle patrols. Over January 2012 officers have made 43 arrests and 16 reports for prosecution. A total of 21 motorists have been warned about leaving valuables in their vehicles.

Vehicle Crime

The theft of valuables from the rear seats of cars continues to be a problem for police in the City Centre. On a daily basis we are seeing expensive items such as laptops, Ipads and golf clubs on full view within cars and we would appeal to motorists not to leave such items on view. Our main hotspots are the streets to the rear of Belfast City Hall and we will continue to patrol these on a daily basis throughout February and March 2012.

Reduction of shop theftThe decrease in shoplifting continues into 2012. High visibility patrolling, the Crimewatch Scheme & the vigilance of retailing staff have all assisted to achieve a 2.6% reduction in shoplifting into February 2012. This is despite a rise in theft related crime, due to the economic downturn elsewhere in Northern Ireland

Reduction of Commercial BurglariesPatrols have been stepped up in areas high in instances of Burglary & officers have focused on key prolific criminals. This has resulted in a 19.9% reduction of burglaries in the area between 1st April and February 2012.

Reduction in Street Drinking

The incidents of drinking at parades have dramatically reduced over 2011 and into 2012 and we will continue to work with our partners in Belfast City Council to run seizure operations at the major events within the city.

Daily updates of policing activity and results will be posted on the Central Facebook page.
