Comber

Comber Neighbourhood Area is divided into Comber , Ballygowan  and Killinchy Beat areas. The entire area covers approximately 40 square miles. The boundary meets with Ards , Castlereagh, Killyleagh, and Rowallane neighbourhood areas.                               

The area consists of two areas of dense population one being Comber Town and the other Ballygowan Village. Comber has several businesses places of worship a Community Centre,Library and Leisure Centre which has just been newly refurbished. It is also the former home town of Thomas Andrews designer of the Titanic. The ‘Comber Greenway’ is a footpath and cycle path running from Comber along an old railway line into Belfast and connecting with other such networks and has become a very popular venue for leisure and some charity events.
    


Ballygowan Village has a number of business premises and places of worship and a Village Hall where numerous events take place including the Police Surgery. A large percentage of the population resident in the village tend to commute to work in other areas such as Belfast.

Killinchy Neighbourhood area includes the village of Killinchy and several other small residential areas. There are a number of places of worship and businesses within this area and the area extends to Whiterock on the edge of Strangford Lough which is very scenic and popular for various leisure activities.

At least three street surgeries will be held throughout the area each month, at various locations, though these are usually at commercial premises. They will be clearly visible and also advertised on Facebook.

8 Year problem with person causing annoyanceWe worked with NIHE , Local Council and Social Services and together we facilitated  the moving of the person to  more suitable accommodation.

Problem along Strangford Lough with Wildfowlers and residentsWe consulted with community affected and then worked in partnership with the BASC and National Trust in publicising useful information on legislation, providing contact information for advice and carried out briefings/training for local Police.


ASB in the Ballygowan area

Two locations in Ballygowan consisting of derelict properties were a magnet for youths involved in ASB. We patrolled the areas consulted with the community NIHE and Developers and Housing Associations to have the properties demolished and cleared. These areas are no longer Hot Spots.
