We Did

Reduce anti social behaviour

Address seasonal problem of youths using illegal fireworks

With your help, we recorded and monitored reports and identified suspected offenders in order to address this issue. Through working in this manner with the communities directly affected and their representatives we devised a number of diversionary schemes and educational projects.  Consequently we have, and continue to enjoy, a marked reduction in reports of anti social behaviour and youths causing annoyance.

Newtownards Neighbourhood Police conducted a series of intelligence led operations which led to the successful recovery of approximately £1000 worth of illegal fireworks.  Several lessons on safety and the laws concerning fireworks were also delivered to local schools and youth clubs.

Respond to crime trends - Poisoning of Cats.  Criminal DamageAll of our patrols are targeted based on statistical analysis of geographical crime trends. In addition we have increased the level of proactive mobile and beat patrols in the areas you have told us you would like to see us in more often. Crime prevention advice leaflets are routinely distributed in areas where an increase in crime is apparent. Criminal Damage leaflets and Animal Welfare leaflets have been widely distributed - to view these leaflets see above at Neighbourhood News

Parking Issues at Primary Schools

We have embarked on a school safety programme starting with Abbey Primary School.  We are monitoring parking and giving advice to motorists.  The programme is one of enforcement and education with leaflets being distributed to pupils for the attention of their parents.  Similar programmes are planned in the forthcoming weeks for Castle Gardens and Loughries Primary Schools.  This will include attention to speeding vehicles.

Comments from Local Headmaster 1/12/11

I just wanted to pass on my thanks to you and your colleagues for the efficient way in which they carried out their duties this morning. Constables Mike Harris, Dave Selby & Susan Farr were outside school to encourage safer driving habits in & around Castle Gardens.

By using such a positive partnership with PSNI, schools, pupils & parents share a commitment to road safety in the best interests of the children.

The feedback from many of the parents has been encouraging & I would hope that we can continue to develop the relationship. For instance we would be very happy to make use of a Speed Indicator outside school if this were possible, on occasions.

Once again thanks for the support, the Newtownards Neighbourhood Policing Team are a tremendous asset & influence for good in our community & in particular our Primary Schools.

Address crime and fear of crimeVictims of particular crimes receive follow up visits or personal contact from NPT officers who provide updates, crime prevention advice and reassurance. Fear of crime is addressed daily through high visibility patrolling on foot and bicycles whilst the inception of several recent intergenerational projects seeks to break down barriers and ill-founded perceptions. We have distributed Criminal Damage Flyers in many areas - to view leaflet click above at Neighbourhood News.
