You can get involved with helping us to make your neighbourhood safer by telling us the issues that you think need to be addressed by attending one of your local partnership meetings.

The Mobile Police Station visits rural communities in all towns and villages.  This provides us with the facility to speak to you in private about any concerns you may have.  The mobile stations carry an extensive collection of information leaflets in relation to crime prevention, drug awareness and also road safety.  The Mobile Station is also placed at major events when they occur in the area.

Midnight Street Soccer for Youths view

Ardglass Inter-agency Meeting:

Police have provided funding to the Patrician Youth Club in order that the club can open late on Friday nights and hold a disco on Saturday nights.   This is taking young people off the streets and providing them with a safe environment in which to enjoy themselves and meet new friends.  The local Neighbourhood Police Team are running an 8 week course with the club entitled "Police Awareness"  This will be a great opportunity to break down any barriers which may exist between youth and police.

Anti-Social Behaviour Committee:

This committee sits at Down District Council and affords all interested parties the opportunity to share information about issues affecting local communities in the Down Area  This is a multi agency approach in problem solving. Midnight Street Soccer Programme has been organised, see link above and click on view.

Down Youth (DYIAG) :

This group of young persons meet on a monthly basis.  Police attend to listen to the issues these young people feel is of interest to their age groups.  A work shop is being held by the group in October 2011.  Letters were recently sent to local schools inviting young people to attend and have their concerns addressed in relation to stereo-typing of young persons by police.

Down District Suicide Prevention Task Force:

This is a recently formed group.  The chairperson requested police representation on the committee to voice their views on the topics discussed.

If you wish to discuss further any of the above meetings please contact your local NPT officer on the telephone numbers provided above.

Problems with Litter

Local communities have spoken about their concerns in relation to the amount of litter in their areas and how others may perceive how they live.  In order to address this the Neighbourhood Policing team along with the Boys Brigade & Scouts will be carrying out a clean up in the Down Area.  It is hoped schools will also join in this very good cause.  Keeping our communities clean can make a real difference to how members of the public perceive the area we live in.

Deal with Anti-social behaviour, YCA, Saul Street, DownpatrickJoint high visibility patrols by the Neighbourhood Policing Team and Council enforcement officers. Use of ASBO legislation. Victims are updated on a regular basis. Police and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) are taking a joint approach to problems. Neighbourhood watch will be set up in the near future.
