Get involved

You can get involved with helping us to make your neighbourhood safer by telling us the issues that you think need to be addressed by attending one of your local community or Inter-agency meetings.

Alternatively we take our newly acquired mobile Police station to all rural towns and villages, which provides us with a facility to speak to you in private about any concerns you may have.  The mobile station also has an extensive selection of information leaflets in relation to crime prevention, drug awareness and road safety.  To find out where the Mobile Station will be soon please contact your local NPT officer on the numbers above.

We Did

Anti social behaviour

We have recorded and identified hot spot areas and offenders in order to eliminate this issue. We have received reports of anti-social behaviour that includes excessive noise, criminal damage, and alcohol and drug misuse. The Neighbourhood Policing Team has carried out proactive beat and cycle patrols in these areas with the Council enforcement officers at problem times such as at the weekend and evenings. The team has also met with community groups in the different areas to develop alternative activities for young people such as youth clubs and football nights.

The Neighbourhood Policing Team arranged for 10 local youths to participate in the "Crossroads Scheme" a programme designed to show youths the negative impact that anti-social behaviour has on the community, the young people themselves and the police service and that every action has a consequence.

We are engaging local youths in the Midnight street soccer programme - for details please click view above

The Anti -Social behaviour Committee sits at Down District Council and affords all interested parties the opportunity to share information about issues affecting local communities in the Down Area.  This is a multi agency approach in problem solving.

Down Youth ( DYIAG):  This group of young persons meet on a monthly basis.  Police attend monthly to listen to the issues these young people feel is of interest to their age groups.  Next meeting is 1st February 2012.

Speeding on approach roads in the Clough/Seaforde areasWe have monitored areas with enforcement equipment and assisted by our Road Policing Unit colleague’s detected motorists in order to reduce such incidents and make our roads safer. We will continue to patrol these areas in an effort to make these areas safer by identifying and patrolling ‘Black Spots’ to prevent Road Collisions.

You wanted a higher police visibility especially in rural areas. We have endeavoured to carry out more high visibility patrols in these areas by getting out of our vehicles and carrying out beat and cycle patrols. We visited each neighbourhood area with the Police Mobile Station and will continue to do so in the future.
