Carrickfergus

The Carrickfergus Neighbourhood Team is managed by Inspector Tommy Mahood, based at Carrickfergus Police station. The team cover the Carrickfergus electoral wards of. Blackhead, Bluefield, Boneybefore, Burleigh Hill, Clipperstown, Eden, Gortalee, Greenisland, Killycrot, Knockagh, Love Lane, Milebush, Northland, Sunnylands, Victoria, Whitehead, Woodburn. Each officer’s area of responsibility is outlined below. The population of the Borough is approximately 45000.

Get involved

You can get involved with helping us to make your neighbourhood safer by telling us the issues that you think need to be addressed by attending one of your local partnership meetings.

Carrickfergus NPT work in partnership with Carrickfergus Council, DPP, NIHE, Social Services and other voluntary agencies on the Community Safety Partnership.                                        Contact the NPT officers or the statutory bodies to raise an issue or find out the time and location of public meetings.

 
Carrickfergus NPT work with the Carrickfergus Drug and Alcohol Advisory Group to educate youths on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.Contact Constable Phillip Cullen, he works closely with this group.

Carrickfergus Safe Cycle Challenge

Carrickfergus Safe Cycle challenge started on Tuesday the 20th March 2012 through to 28th March 2012 this is an annual event involving all 13 Primary Schools in the borough.  Around 500 P7 pupils take part during this initiative jointly run by the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Carrickfergus Borough Council, DOE Road Safety Education Branch and Carrickfergus Road Safety Committee.

The finalists will now go forward to the grand final at Oakfield Community Centre, Oakfield Drive, Carrickfergus on Friday 20th April 2012 starting at 10.00am where parents and teachers may also attend.  The winner will receive a new bicycle and also take the Safe Cycle Challenge Trophy back to their school.  There will be runner up prizes also.

During the heats each competitor is shown life saving cycling skills, wears a cycle helmet and high visibility jacket.  The message given to the children is that cycle helmets should always be worn as well as bright clothing.

Anti Social Behaviour

At a recent Police Clinic held on the 18th October in Joymount public library there were three separate reports of concerns from the public.  Two were referred to the relevant Neighbourhood Officer and a means of contact exchanged, one was taken on board by Constable Cullen regarding vehicle Anti Social Behaviour in Taylors Avenue.

Contact was made with the Environmental Services and an operation planning meeting arranged.  The meeting was held on the 25th October, the result being the initial planning was completed for a joint operation with the Police Service of Northern Ireland, the Environmental Services and the Driver Vehicle Agency (MOT)


BurglaryRecorded and monitored reports, targeted patrols to provide reassurance in identified areas. Circulated crime prevention advice at public meetings and via regular press releases.

Site Security

A meeting was held on the 11th November with Carrickfergus Council officials who were concerned in relation to the security at their site.  The outcome of the meeting is that there will be an increase in patrols and Officers calling to provide crime prevention advice.

Details of Neighbourhood Watch / Residents groups / DPP/CPLC/Police Clinics

The Carrickfergus DPP Chairperson is Councillor Lynn McClurg. The DPP Manager is Ann Allen.

There are numerous Neighbourhood Schemes in the Carrickfergus area, working in close partnership with Neighbourhood officers in the prevention and detection of crime.

The Carrickfergus Community Forum has been established for many years and operates effectively within the area. Regular meetings are held giving local residents and elected representatives direct access to Neighbourhood officers. this enables issues to be dealt with locally.

Windmill Residents Association

A meeting was held with the Windmill Residents Association on the 27th October 2011.  This resulted in the Neighbourhood team providing an article for the Windmill Newsletter.  A further meeting has been arranged for two weeks time.  Windmill Newsletter
