ATM Safety Advice

ATM skimming is when someone illegally copies your account details from the magnetic strip on you credit or debit card when you use an ATM.  The criminal then uses your details to create a fake or 'cloned' card.  In most cases, they use the fake card and PIN to withdraw money from an ATM.

The attached document provides safe practical advice to consider.  ATM Safety Advice

LeisureWatch

Leisurewatch is a very useful project that bridges a gap in the offence/non-offence area regarding public safety of children and vulnerable persons.  Across D District the scheme runs in all council boroughs at the following locations:

Lisburn - Lisburn Leisureplex

Newtownabbey - Valley Leisure Centre, Ballyearl Leisure Centre, Six Mile Leisure Centre Ballyclare and Ulster University Jordanstown

Antrim - Antrim Forum

Carrickfergus - Amphitheatre, Wellness Centre

Leisurewatch addresses a gap, the gap that falls between two areas, firstly were in certain situations it is apparent that a child is in immediate danger, for example were a child has been assaulted, urgent action will be taken, this will include reporting the matter directly to police, secondly some concerns may not be at a significant enough level to warrant contacting police directly yet there has been no other suitable means by which to pass this level of information on.  Leisurewatch provides an innovative piece of work that facilitates the exchange of information between trained staff and named police (Public Protection Unit) in order to reduce the risk that individuals pose, individuals who target children by going to places where potential victims congregate, leisure centres, shopping centres, swimming pools etc.

The Leisurewatch logo will be visible at all trained venues and the TDI booklet showing the logo and more information is attached.  TDI Booklet

The Good Morning Northern Ireland Scheme

Across Northern Ireland and in D District there are Good Morning Programmes set up by the Good Morning Northern Ireland Network to cover the following areas; Antrim Borough, Carrick Borough, Colin & Greater Dunmurry and Newtownabbey Borough.

Each scheme has a data base of vulnerable/elderly people who they contact on a regular basis to make sure they are safe, secure and raise awareness of any community issues that might have an impact on them.  Getting them onto the database requires that individuals consent.

The aim of this project is to support increased confidence and reassurance amongst vulnerable and elderly people and victims of crime by providing basic crime reduction advice through agency volunteers and staff from Victim Support and Good Morning services.

Good Morning services provide reassurance to the elderly and vulnerable adults within the community through free and confidential daily telephone calls and support, connecting them to their community and local services.  Clients are supported to remain in their own homes, maintaining their independence.  Good Mon ring functions within the policy areas of health and well-being, neighbourhood renewal, community development and community safety by tackling isolation, vulnerability, loneliness and the fear of crime.

Within D District we have a process in place for Police Officers to refer suitable persons to the programmes.

The Good Morning programme also enables you to point persons in the right direction whom you come across in your role and are deemed suitable for the Good Morning programme.  This scheme gives you a chance to help members of the community who have no support, possible on family of friends, neighbours etc to be given an alternative method of support to help keep them safe.

Visit the following web-site for further information on the scheme www.goodmorningni.org
