Message from Chief Superintendent Henry Irvine

D District is a large and varied District comprising both urban and rural areas throughout Antrim, Carrickfergus, Lisburn and Newtownabbey. As District Commander, it is important to me that the District contributes in a real, positive and meaningful way to the overall vision of establishing the PSNI as the finest, personal, professional and protective police service in the world.

Each of us in D District is absolutely dedicated to this vision and to honouring our publicly stated Policing Commitments. These nine promises outline how we will treat you as a person, how we will deliver a professional service and how we will protect you.

In managing how we deliver the kind of policing service that you have been asking for I am assisted by two Superintendents and four Chief Inspectors. Superintendent Michele Larmour takes responsibility for Community Safety, Criminal Justice and Neighbourhood Policing while Superintendent Philip Knox is responsible for Operations. My Chief Inspectors are responsible for individual Area Command and CID as well as other portfolios like Community Safety, Criminal Justice and Operations.

Community policing is at the heart of everything we do and this is why we have recently made significant efforts in the District to ensure that as many officers as possible are used in frontline activities such as response, CID, and neighbourhood policing.  We continually review the allocation of our staff to ensure that we are best meeting the needs of everyone who resides, works in or visits the District.

Over the past year we have also had much success in reducing crime and anti-social behaviour in the District and while sustaining and improving upon that will continue to present us with a challenge, I am confident that over the coming months my officers will continue to focus their efforts on the issues that matter most to local people.

We are grateful for the support of our communities in D District and would encourage them to continue to work alongside us by reporting crime and suspicious activity, by participating in local policing structures and by personally engaging with officers. Together we can make D District a safer, more confident and more peaceful place.
