Anti Social behaviour

Residents of the Victoria walk area had raised concerns about the area backing Victoria walk and Banbridge town hall being used for consuming alcohol and taking drugs. As a result of this Neighbourhood Officers increased the number of beat patrols in the area and also used police mountain bikes to patrol the back paths of the area. This resulted in a number of youths being spoken to and alcohol being seized

An initiative between Banbridge and Newry Neighbourhood police officers recently took young people from the Banbridge area take part in the Mourne Mountain Adventure which took local youths to Tollymore Forest to camp overnight before taking part in a hike over the Mournes .They then had to board boats which took them to Ballykinlar camp during which they had to take part in different challenges to teach and test them on communication, leadership, diversity, problem solving and respect for others. The Adventure was promoted within the media and the young people thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Fear of crimeTo raise awareness of Domestic Violence, Banbridge Neighbourhood Officers in partnership with Woman’s Aid, Banbridge Community Safety Partnership and members of REACT, Banbridge, recently carried out drama based workshops to Year 10 pupils of local schools. The “Beat it” workshops aimed to heighten the pupil’s awareness of “Healthy relationships” and the need to report any abuse to Police. The workshops were very successful and promoted much debate between the pupils. The events themselves were funded by ARIS, the Asset Recovery Incentivisation Scheme, which takes money recovered from crime and criminals and puts it back into the Community.

Road safetyResidents in the Peggy’s Loaning area recently complained about the high speed of vehicles using the road. Banbridge Neighbourhood officers increased their high visibility patrols of the area and issued several speeding tickets to offending drivers. Word soon spread and the speeding issue has calmed at this time.”
