Anti Social Driving in the late evenings

In co-operation with the Rathfriland Regeneration Group, Driving Change Project, REACT and other we established a young drivers group who received various eduational and awareness workshops over a number of months. These provided focus for the young people on the impact of AS Driving and as a consequence reports about AS Driving in the late evening has significantly reduced. This group still continues to meet and is currently mananaged by the Rathfriland Regeneration Group.  If you would like to attend the weekly meeting or to discuss topical issues please feel free to contact the Neighbourhood Team for further details.


Speeding motorists and anti-social driving in Rathfriland SquareRegular high-profile laser speed checks and dedicated patrols at priority times especially school starting or leaving times. Complaints analysed to identify particular times and attention given. Motorists identified and warnings issued. Education of potential offenders ongoing

Anti-Social Behaviour, John Street, Cross Heights, Downpatrick Street.High-visibility patrols at problem times, zero tolerance on alcohol and disorderly behaviour. All reports responded to and those present noted, even if no offence detected, with parents being informed by letter. Repeat offenders identified. Workshops and Youth Groups used to provide alternative activities.

Underage DrinkingClose liaison with Licensees and shops, education and enforcement, regular patrols of problem areas. Likely offenders identified and details circulated; likewise habitual haunts identified and regular attention given. Liaison with voluntary and statutory agencies to provide workshops to educate and deter.

Rural Burglary / Agricultural TheftEnhanced patrolling of rural areas; attention to habitual or repeat offenders. Crime Prevention leaflet drop to rural farms.
