Portadown is a traditional Northern Ireland market town of historical significance. It has a mixture of housing around a vibrant town centre which has recently undergone an extensive public realm scheme which has rejuvenated this area. The town has the River Bann running through its centre which provides recreational opportunities which are to be advanced in the future. There are nineteen schools in the area, and a large variety of places of worship. It has a town Health Centre as well as Craigavon Area Hospital. There are other significant municipal buildings such as the library and the old Town Hall. Portadown has a history of industry with traditional firms such as Ulster Carpet Mills and Dennys. The industrial estates on the edge of town include large companies such as Moypark and Almac as well as a host of smaller enterprises. The neighbourhood area includes a rural section reaching to Maghery on the shores of Lough Neagh.

Local Priorities

You said We did
Fear of crime / burglary in the Portadown Area We have been speaking with both victims of burglary and their neighbours in order to try and allay some of the fears caused by burglary. We have also set up a number of Neighbourhood and Farm watches and carried out a program of trailer marking to deter the theft of farm machinery.
Scramblers Garvaghy Area We have increased our profile in the area with patrols at pertinent times and places. We have spoken to the community via their community representatives to encourage reporting with a view to identifying the perpetrators. The issue has also been raised at multi agency community meetings to establish a cohesive set of actions to tackle the issue.
Anti Social Behaviour Jervis Street We have increased the number of High Vis patrols both in vehicle and on foot at various times of the day. Police have spoken to a number of people in the area re their behaviour.
Anti Social Behaviour Portadown Health Centre There has been an increase in the amount of Anti Social Behaviour and criminal damage in the area of the Health Centre. We have increased both mobile and foot patrols in the area. CCTV in the area is being looked at and we are in the process of identifying the offenders.
Anti Social Behaviour Upper Ramone Park Residents of Upper Ramone Park had been concerned about anti-social behaviour in the area - Police liaised with PSCP members and Craigavon Borough Council and a Public meeting was arranged with residents from both Ramone Park and Upper Ramone Park attending. As a result of this an application for a new Neighbourhood Watch Scheme has been submitted for Upper Ramone Park. Police have increased high vis patrols foot patrols in the area.
