Portadown

Portadown is a traditional Northern Ireland market town of historical significance. It has a mixture of housing around a vibrant town centre which has recently undergone an extensive public realm scheme which has rejuvenated this area.

The town has the River Bann running through its centre which provides recreational opportunities which are to be advanced in the future. There are nineteen schools in the area, and a large variety of places of worship. It has a town Health Centre as well as Craigavon Area Hospital. There are other significant municipal buildings such as the library and the old Town Hall.

Portadown has a history of industry with traditional firms such as Ulster Carpet Mills and Dennys. The industrial estates on the edge of town include large companies such as Moypark and Almac as well as a host of smaller enterprises.

The neighbourhood area includes a rural section reaching to Maghery on the shores of Lough Neagh.

We Did

Tyre slashing Portadown

Following a number of attacks on cars in the Portadown area, we have worked with the local community to prevent any further attacks on vehicles and investigate those incidents that have already occurred. Police have increased patrols in the area and have set up several operations, both in uniform and plain clothes. With the help of the community police have made one arrest and this person has been charged. Police are continuing to work in partnership with the community and their representatives.

Quad bikes Garvaghy area

Police have received reports of persons riding quad bikes in a concerning manner in the Ballyoran Park area. We have increased uniformed patrols in the area in an effort to deter offences being committed and detecting the offending vehicles. To date one quad bike has been seized and prosecutions are imminent.

Anti Social Behaviour

With the help of the local community we have achieved a reduction in antisocial behaviour and will continue to proactively address this issue. We have identified offenders and dealt with them in a number of ways including warning letters, anti-social behaviour warnings, cautions and prosecutions. We have conducted the ‘Street Scene’ initiative in schools and youth groups and have set up several projects involving young people in order to deter them from this type of behaviour.
