We Did

Staff from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Station reported to Police that they are being hindered from exiting the station and responding to emergency calls due people parking at the exit of their station, and on both sides of the Hospital Road, at visiting times on a daily basis

Police monitored the situation and upon identifying a problem they liaised with the DOE in order to have the yellow ‘zig-zag’ lines outside the station and the double yellow lines on Hospital Road, lengthened in order to deter people from parking there.

A press release was also issued to the local papers in order to highlight the problem and to ask members of the public to be more considerate in where they parked in order to make sure they are not hindering the emergency vehicles.

Antisocial use of quads and scramblers in the Carnagat areaWe conducted high visibility patrols in the area at relevant times and seized a number of quads and scramblers which were being used on both roads and public areas.

Antisocial behaviour and driving standards in the Old Warrenpoint Road areaWe carried out enforcement operations early in the mornings, using police motorcyclists and high visibility vehicles, and made several detections for excess speed. These were dealt with by fixed penalty notices and discretionary disposals. We carried out both vehicle and foot patrols at times which were identified as having high instances of antisocial behaviour. A number of youths were detected and referred to the Youth Diversion Officer. We are now in the process of setting up three new Neighbourhood Watch Schemes.

Burglary and thefts from vehicles

We conducted high visibility patrols in car parks throughout the city, identifying valuables on view and opportunities for thieves. We then wrote to the vehicle keeper advising them of our observations and encourgaing them to keep valuables out of view. We distributed leaflets with crime prevention advice in relation to thefts from cars. We have also secured funding for new crime prevention equipment which will be distributed to those with identified needs, free of charge.
