We did

General CrimeA targeted leaflet drop was conducted to make residents aware of their local neighbourhood officers, advice given on how to respond to anti-burglary and anti-metal thefts initiatives.  Also Neighbourhood Officers spoke through local Radio Stations asking for any information and help from the community. Local neighbourhood officers conducted high visibility patrols on foot, bikes and in vehicles, stopping with members of the public to identify their own concerns within their community.

Anti Social Behaviour

Hot spot areas identified, high visibility foot patrols increased and issues assessed with partner agencies for long term actions. In July 2011 a leaflet containing all Officers Names and Contact information asking the Public to contact Police with ongoing issues were delivered with an excellent response from the Community.

Body Worn Cameras have been used whilst on duty, especially on foot patrol which proved to be effective in the deterrent of anti social behaviour.

Underage drinkingThis was actioned through interaction and education of retail trade and young people through CASE delivery. Also increased police presence at hot spot locations and at off sales locations at relevant times.

Use of motor cycles and quadsJoint agency working group established to identify persons involved and education leaflet produced. Enforcement operations carried out over 20 vehicles seized to date and discretion used.  We are currently tackling this issue also through local media with great response from the local community.

Drugs and their impact on our Community

Op Silent Guardian’ was recently introduced whereby a leaflet drop was delivered in the City North area.  Police Officers personally delivered these leaflets to build up relationships with their local areas.  By speaking to the community on a one to one basis information was received resulting in a number of prosecutions

CASE Training delivered in local schools warning of the dangers of illegal drugs and so called ‘legal highs’. The students were giving advice re the legal, physical, social and medical implications of substance misuse.

Road SafetyWe conducted ‘School Gate’ operations, where students were provided with junior highway codes and parents were provided with booklets advising them on road safety for their specific Child’s age group.

Community Matters

We wrote to every school in our area outlining and offering our services (which include CASE).

We also contacted places of Worship as part of the police ‘Church Watch’ initiative, providing advice and reassurance.

Officers recently attended the Regatta and Children’s Fun Day at Culmore along with the Horticultural Members.

Neighbourhood officers recently rescued ten horses and aided the RSPCA in recovering of these animals to safety.
