We did

Tackling Drug Dealers

The community had stated that they wanted suppliers of illegal drugs in the Glens area targeted.

Limavady Neighbourhood Police Officers, in conjunction with Limavady Crime Team carried out searches of 9 houses in the Glens area and 1 in Sperrin Road at the end of January 2012. Cannabis, Cocaine and Methadone with an approximate street value of £130,000 were seized and a number of arrests made. This intelligence led operation was made possible thanks to the information that the local community provide to Police.

Limavady Urban NPT in partnership with the local District Policing Partnership have launched Silent Guardian initiative. This involves the targeting of areas where it is known or suspected that drug dealers are operating or living in. Information supplied by members of the local community may be the final piece of data that enables Police to conclude an investigation. Using silent Guardian enables you to anonymously contact Police and allows you to take positive action to counter the influence of illicit drugs.

Anti-Social Behaviour

In response to requests from the community to impact upon Antisocial Behaviour in the Edenmore Road area, Neighbourhood Officers carried out a leaflet drop in January and February 2012.

The aim is to raise awareness of the impact of Anti-Social Behaviour on local communities. Approximately 550 houses have been included to date. Local Officers continue to carry out patrols in the area.

Increased Access to Neighbourhood Officers

Limavady Urban Neighbourhood team run weekly clinics locally to engage with members of the community. Details of these are published. A member of the team will be in attendance to deal with local issues. Details of local neighbourhood officers and their contact details are published on the PSNI website.

Limavady Urban Neighbourhood Team have launched the Roe Valley Senior Forum to allow older members of the community an opportunity to meet their Local Police Team to share their views, identify issues for older people and have their say on issues which concern them. For further information contact a member of the Neighbourhood Team.

Working with local young persons

In response to requests for local NPT Officers to work closely with local young people and make them feel involved, and to give local youths who have previously been in trouble the opportunity to change their offending behaviour, members of the Limavady Neighbourhood Policing Team are involved in the STRIDE project. This is a 20 week personal development and training programme run in a fun, relaxed setting. It takes young people, aged between 14-17 years, who are either on the fringe of or within the criminal justice system. The aim is to improve awareness of the impact of their Anti Social Behaviour and criminal behaviour hence hopefully reducing reoffending.

Increased information on Community based activities

We provide regular updates through Neighbourhood Newsletters, Faith in Policing Newsletters, the PSNI website, and through local District Policing Partnership meetings.

Anti Social Behaviour

CHANGES IN A FLASH -an intergenerational project delivered through the medium of photography aimed at educating both generations about perceptions and consequences of Anti-social behaviour. The participants examined the consequences of ASB on themselves, the victims and their communities. A DVD was produced by the participants which clearly outlines the impact and consequences of ASB. Any group wishing to get a copy of the DVD please contact the local Neighbourhood team.

Underage DrinkingVisits to all local Off Licences ensuring that they were demanding ID from youths.  Cycle and beat patrols are conducted in all our estates and the town centre area.  Alcohol seizures carried out and referrals to the Youth Diversion Officer.

C.A.S.E – Citizenship and Community Safety

Letters were sent to all the schools outlining the services with CASE and inviting schools to participate.

NPT officers attended various community fun days, providing a high visibility presence with the mobile police station, bikes, etc

Picnic at the Pool-a partnership event at Roe Valley Leisure Centre celebrating the contribution that local families make to our community and to ensure they are aware of what help is available to them. Almost 2000 people attended on the day making it a resounding success and we are planning to make this an annual event.

Anti Social Behaviour

Hot spot areas identified, high visibility foot patrols increased and issues assessed with partner agencies for long term actions through our Anti Social Behaviour Forum.
