We did

Vehicle related nuisance

Police in conjunction with local council and Road safety committe recently held an event called 'motor madness' at Maghera High School. This highlighted road safety issues and demonstrated how to safely and legally modify cars which is of particular interest to many young people.

The event also dealt with the aftermath of a serious car crash and placed great emphasis on safe driving and obeying the rules of the road.

Community Reassurance

Following concerns raised by local Community Groups regarding incidents of burglary locally, a 'bogus callers' event was held in Magherafelt. Local Neighbourhood Policing Team officers were in attendance, and provided crime prevention information and reassurance on bogus callers.

Anti-Social Behaviour

Community groups in the Bellaghy area have raised concerns regarding anti social behaviour incidents involving young people and also vehicles in the local area.

As a result Police have been paying additional attention to the Newferry area, and increasing high visibility patrols in the towns and estates in an effort to address these concerns.

Excess Speed

Police will be visting local schools at starting and finishing times, and conducting high visibility patrols to ensure the safety of our local school children and to deter any excess speeding outside the schools.

Involvement with community groups in Tobermore have raised concerns over speeding in the town. As a result, Police have increased high visibility patrols in the area, assisted by officers from the Roads Policing Unit, conducting speed detection operations. Police have also liased with Road Service officials in relation to having a survey conducted along the affected roads to ascertain the feasibility of installing ramps and other speed calming measures.

Anti Social / Careless Driving

“Dubinit” project has been set up by Constable McCosh in partnership with Magherafelt Road Safety Council, Magherafelt District Policing Partnership and Magherafelt Community Safety Partnership. This project involves young drivers learning how to modify a car legally and undertaking an educational programme in road safety in the hope of reducing repeat offenders.
