We Did

We are concerned about thefts throughout the rural community

Coleraine Rural NPT welcomed Snowball on 28th February to Garvagh Station, along with her owner, local businessman Steven O'Kane. Others present included local representatives from the area. The purpose of the visit was to enhance local knowledge regarding the transport of farm animals and to addressing concerns of the farming community against rural crime.

We have increased our patrolling, particularly during nights and held events such as Trailer Marking and supplied information around stopping Metal thefts in the Community.

We are holding a Rural Crime & Neighbourhood Watch Seminar on Thursday 24th May at 7.30pm in Kilrea Town Hall so please come along. (Light supper provided). All invited.

We are concerned about anti social behaviour.

The Macosquin Village Community Association, St Mary’s Church and the PSNI’s NPT have launched an exciting new project to unite people in a common purpose.

They’re set to work together in mini allotment patches, growing fruit and vegetables for themselves and to share with the community.

‘Incredible Edible’ is a venture which is reminiscent of the TV series, ‘The good Life’ starring Felicity Kendall and Richard Briers and their efforts to be self sufficient in home grown vegetables. It began in the Yorkshire village of Todmorden several years ago and was so successful that the idea has spread throughout Britain. Hugh Hamilton, proprietor of Mary Pat’s Bar set aside a piece of ground between the pub and the church for the project.  Warren Nevin prepared the area for planting, while Kenny Campbell marked the allotment plots and created paths.

Church member, Glenn Parke coordinated the allotment allocation, while Community Policeman, Billy Smith promoted the scheme throughout the village,  ensuring uptake of allotment plots from Macosquin Playgroup, Macosquin Primary School Gardening Club, Village football club, the local Orange Lodge, individuals in the community and members of the congregation in St Mary’s Church. To date 25 plots have been allocated.

As the project develops there are plans to construct a small henhouse and chicken run and to commence bee keeping.

We are concerned about anti social driving throughout the rural area.

Police in the areas of Kilrea and Garvagh are becoming increasingly concerned about the rise in the number of reports of Anti Social Motoring which are happening at road junctions, rural locations and within our towns and streets. It must be noted that Anti Social Driving is any driving which causes distress, alarm or nuisance to the residents of the area and does not necessarily have to be dangerous, In recent months and years local NPT officers in Coleraine Rural have been attempting to put in place a period of education and discretion regarding a wide range of motoring offences including failing to wear seatbelts, misuse of mobile phones and excess speed, however, it appears this message is still not getting through to the some people and so police will have to adopt more traditional means of Enforcement so please get the word out there.
