Larne Town

Larne is a busy coastal town situated at the entrance of Larne Lough, East, County Antrim. The area has developed as a commuter town due to presence of the Port of Larne, the close proximity to the City of Belfast (22 miles) and the developing infrastructure, which enables easy access to the rest of Northern Ireland from the UK mainland.

You said

Partners and Community Together meeting, Larne Town & Estates Locality 8th December 2011

We Did

Young people engaged in Anti-social behaviour and problems associated with the illegal supply and misuse of alcohol and drugs.

High visibility patrols deployed in "Hot Spot" areas to disrupt, deter and detect offenders. Police liaised with other Statutory and Voluntary Partner Agencies to conduct joint patrols.

Concerns were raised about the level of rural crime.

Two Rural Crime Prevention advice initiatives launched at Millbrook in December 2011 and in Carnlough March 2012. Agricultural Equipment and Trailer Marking scheme took place with additional advice and product demonstrations provided by proffessional and Statutory agencies.

Speeding in the Linn Road Estates area.

PSNI and DRD Road Services conducted a survey in the area but it did not indicate a problem with speeding. Adjustments have been made to a number of speed bumps following consultation between Police and the Roads service.

The local residents are frustrated by individuals moving into the area and landlords failing to address ongoing Anti Social Behaviour.

Identified issues are dealt with on an individual basis. Protocols are being developed with the Department of Justice to review legislation to address the role and responsibilities of private landlords.

Next Meeting: Postponed until further notice
