Ballycastle

Ballycastle npt picture 2011

Ballycastle covers the town of Ballycastle, Ballyvoy and the surrounding countryside.  The population of this area is approximately 7,000.  It has a very active harbour area, with fishing vessels, pleasure craft and a daily service to Rathlin and a regular service to Cambletown.  The town has numerous leisure facilities including tennis courts (the only remaining grass courts in the country), all weather pitches, Gaelic pitches, football pitches and of course our famous coastline and beaches.  There are also leisure facilities available at Council offices on Mary Street which are open to the public.  Ballycastle has a library, medical centre and a hospital, but not an emergency department.  The Emergency Department is at Coleraine.  The town centre has many family businesses with a very active Chamber of Commerce.

We Did

Increase in Anti-Social Behaviour in the Stroanshesk area of the town.

We worked with community safety partnership and community wardens to empower the community to deal with this issue.  We gave more high visibility attention to this area and have issued acceptable behaviour contracts.  We are also working with other partner agencies, such as Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Social Services and Council to ensure that all actions are planned and for the benefit of the community.

Noise and anti-social behaviour in the town centre on a Friday and Saturday night. We will continue to police the night life in the town centre, but are working with the licensees and Chamber of Commerce to progress the purple flag scheme that should give benefit to the town centre and hopefully attract more tourists to the area.

Criminal damage in the town.Put in operations to stop criminal damage to the Marine Hotel, three arrests were made.
