Fatal Road Traffic Collision, Shankill, North Belfast

A 59-year-old woman has died in hospital this afternoon (Friday 2 January) from injuries she received following a Road Traffic Collision in the North Belfast area on Wednesday 31 December.

The lady was struck by a grey Renault car, at the junction of the Shankill Road and Crimea Street around 12.45pm in the afternoon. She was taken to hospital where her condition deteriorated.

Although this was not a hit and run road traffic collision, police are again renewing their appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident. It is believed that a number of people in the area would have seen the collision and while a number of witnesses have contacted police in relation to the collision, police believe there are more people who could help with their investigation. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has any information is asked to contact police at Tennent Street station on 0845 600 8000.

The lady was later named as Margaret Cunningham from the Shankill area.

The family of the victim have requested no media attention.
