Cards prompt wanted to hand themselves in
09 Jan 2009
A total of 22 warrants have been executed by police so far in respect of offenders who have handed themselves in after receiving a Seasonal Greetings card from the Police.
Approximately 175 greeting cards were sent to individuals across Northern Ireland who are wanted on warrant for failing to attend court or pay a fine. The cards asked offenders to voluntarily hand themselves in and to save them the unnecessary embarrassment of being arrested at home, work or when out with friends.
Assistant Chief Constable Duncan McCausland said: "The initiative, which helped to reduce police time spent chasing up warrants, appears to be working. It has saved the Service approximately £5,000 worth of Police time so far.”
