Suspicious fire, Antrim

10 Jan 2009

Detectives in Newtownabbey are appealing for information about a fire at a convenience supermarket at Bridge Street, Antrim.

Police were made aware of the fire shortly after 4.15am on Saturday 10 January.

Due to gas cylinders at the rear of the building, a number of persons were evacuated from their houses at Masareen Street.

The shop and a number of offices in the same complex were extensively damaged.

Initial enquiries suggest that the fire was started maliciously when rubbish to the rear of the building was set alight.

Anyone with information or who witnessed suspicious activity should contact detectives by calling 0845 600 8000, alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by contacting 0800 555 111.
