Armed robbery, Donegal Road, West Belfast

12 Apr 2009

Detectives are appealing for information following the armed robbery of a cash in transit van on Saturday morning, 11 April.

Shortly after 10am the driver of the vehicle was making a delivery at a shopping centre in the Donegal Road area when a silver coloured people carrier, possibly a Peugeot, pulled up close to him. A male armed with a hand gun exited the rear of the vehicle and threatened the van driver, ordering him to drop a cash box he was holding.

At this time a security guard from the shopping centre, who was close by, was also threatened with the weapon.

The robber then grabbed the cash box and returned to the people carrier. The vehicle, which was driven by another male also believed to have been armed, and made off towards the Donegall Road exit and onto the Falls Road.

This vehicle was later recovered in the St James' Crescent area of Ballymurphy.

Detectives are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed the robbery or who witnessed these males making off from the vehicle in the Ballymurphy area. The number to call is 0845 600 8000. Alternatively information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
