Assault, Edward Street, Newry

Detectives in Newry are appealing for witnesses following an assault in the Edward Street area of the city.

A 35 year old man was walking along Armagh Road onto Edward Street at approximately 00.45am on Tuesday 18 August, when he was approached by four men.  The victim was struck on the head, possibly with a piece of timber.

These males are also believed to have taken the victim's mobile phone.

The victim sustained a fractured wrist and a number of lacerations to his head.

At thie time police are treating this incident as a hate crime.
