Two arrested and drugs seized, Omagh

04 Aug 2009

Police made two arrests and seized 85 ecstasy tablets in Omagh at the weekend.

Members of a police patrol spotted suspicious activity close to the bus depot shortly before 3am on Saturday 1 August.  Two men, both aged 20, were arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs with intent to supply.  They were later released pending further enquiries.

Chief Inspector Graham Dodds, of the F District Community Safety department, said the arrests were a result of pro-active policing.

“Tackling the sale and use of illegal drugs is one of the priorities for policing in this area.  We will do this by a range of overt and intelligence-led operations.

“This detection was the result of pro-active policing, but we also get a lot of information from the community about drugs.  We welcome this information because it shows that the drugs issue is one that local people care deeply about.

“The seizure at the weekend took 85 potentially deadly tablets out of circulation.  In recent months we have also targeted would-be suppliers bringing drugs into this area from outside – with notable success.  All these operations will continue in the future.

“If anyone has information about the supply or use of proscribed drugs, I would ask them to give it to police by telephoning 0845 600 8000, or anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.”
