Child Safety Initiative, Coleraine
12 Aug 2009
Coleraine Neighbourhood Policing Team have joined up with the Jet Centre in Coleraine to promote a child safety initiative during the month of August. The event has been designed to provide parents and young people with an opportunity to speak with their local Neighbourhood officers about a range of important issues affecting young people.
Neighbourhood Sergeant Sean Craig said, “Each of the four evening events will be themed to provide families attending the Jet Centre an opportunity to discuss a variety of matters including alcohol and drug abuse by young people, internet security, mobile phone safety, and anti social behaviour.”
A selection of information leaflets will also be available for people to take away and consider.
Officers will be at the Jet Centre from 7.30pm – 9.30 pm and the themes for each evening are:
Friday 7 August – Your Child and Alcohol and Anti social behaviour
Saturday 15 August – Internet Security and Mobile phone safety
Friday 21 August – Young persons and Alcohol / Drugs Awareness – police powers and education
Friday 28 August – Internet Security and Mobile phone safety/ anti social behaviour.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for our officers to engage with parents and young people, to highlight the dangers of alcohol and drugs abuse, and to provide some advice to parents on how deal with these issues with their children. We will also be making people aware of the need for internet safety and mobile phone security. I would like to thank the Jet Centre for joining with us to promote these important child safety messages.”
