Enjoy the party season, but Get Home Safely
29 Dec 2009
As New Year celebrations approach, Police, as part of Operation Seasons Greetings, are asking everyone to think when they drink and to remember the ‘Get Home Safe’ message.
Chief Superintendent Alan Todd said; "People need to put as much thought into planning how they will get home as they do for their night out.”
If you are going out in a group to socialise, stick together and don’t separate; arrange transport home in advance; and look after each other so everyone gets home safely.
“Isolated people can be more vulnerable, especially when they have consumed alcohol and they can easily become the victim of anti-social behaviour or crime. We want socialising to be a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Northern Ireland has a vibrant night time economy and we all want to have a great time during the festive party season. It is important that revellers take a responsible attitude to alcohol consumption,” he said, and added, “Never leave your drink unattended.
"The message is take care of yourself and each other and stay together"
Remember to:
- plan your journey home in advance.
- drink responsibly.
- don’t walk through areas you are unsure of.
- stay in well-lit areas.
- stick with your friends.
- never accept a drink from someone you don’t know.
- always have enough money to get yourself home.
