Attempted robbery, Rock Lane, Lurgan
02 Dec 2009
Detectives are appealing for information about an attempted robbery outside Lurgan.
Shortly before 9.40pm on Tuesday, 1 December, at least two masked men, one armed with a handgun and one armed with a sledgehammer, called at the door of a house at Rock Lane, off Soldierstown Road, between Aghalee and Aghagallon
When the door was answered the men tried to enter the house and, following a struggle, shot a man aged in his 50s to the leg. He was also struck in the arm with the sledgehammer. The men did not enter the house.
A girl aged in her late teens and a primary school aged girl who were at home at the time were not injured.
The man was taken to hospital with injuries which were not believed to be life-threatening.
Initial enquiries suggest that a red Audi A4 car was used by the men and that the car was stolen as a result of a burglary at Fortfield, Dromore (County Down). This burglary was reported shortly after 5.40pm on Tuesday, 1 December.
