Hit and run traffic collision, Maphoner Road, Newry

Police in Newry are appealing for information following a serious hit and run road traffic collision on the Maphoner Road near Silverbridge at approximately 3.30am on Sunday morning, 13 December.

It is understood that a number of people were getting out of a taxi when they were struck by a car which drove on.  A woman in her 50s and a man in his 30s were taken to hospital by ambulance.  The woman is described as being in a serious condition.  The man’s condition is not believed to be serious.  Another male was also struck by the car but did not require hospital treatment.

Police believe that the offending vehicle, which drove off in the direction of Mullaghbawn Village would have sustained frontal damage as a result of the collision and are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to contact them at Newry 0845 600 8000.
