Robbery cash-in-transit van, Knock Road, Belfast

Police in East Belfast investigating the robbery of  a cash-in-transit van as it made a delivery to a filling station on the Knock Dual Carriageway. around 10am today (Tuesday 15 December).

An armed robber entered the shop and stole a container filled with a substantial sum of money.  He then hijacked a red coloured Ford Fiesta from a customer before making off in the vehicle in the direction of the Braniel estate or the Castlereagh road.  One round was discharged during the incident.  No one was injured in the incident.

The robber is described 6ft tall, of slim build, with black hair and eyebrows and was wearing a dark blue cap, black scarf, and a green parka style knee length jacket.  He was carrying a dark / silver hand gun.

Anyone who notices the whereabouts of the red Fiesta is asked to contact police immediately and not to approach the vehicle or its occupant.  Anyone with information regarding the robbery is asked to contact Police in East Belfast on 0845 600 8000.  Alternatively, information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
