Disturbance, Lourdes Parade, Lurgan
12 Feb 2009
Police in Lurgan have appealed to parents to be aware of their children’s activities and discourage them from getting involved in behaviour which could result in Court appearances and ultimately, criminal convictions.
The appeal follows an incident on Wednesday evening (11 February) during a charity fundraising parade organised by the local Lourdes Fundraising Committee. Shortly before 8pm stone throwers in the area of North Street and Lake Street attacked Neighbourhood Police Officers carrying out traffic duty to facilitate the parade. At one stage a garden shed was set on fire resulting on fire crews being tasked. A number of stones were also thrown at an Northern Ireland Railways signal box and a small fire was started on the railway line itself. The disturbance lasted for almost one hour. There are no reports of any injuries.
Police are appealing for anyone with information about those involved in this incident to contact them at Lurgan PSNI on 0845 600 8000. Anonymous information can also be passed to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
