Explosion, South Belfast

Police responded to an incident at Rutland Street, off the Ormeau Road.

Shortly after 10pm on Wednesday 18 February it was reported that a noise had been heard from an alleyway to the rear of houses.

Army technical officers attended the area. Initial enquiries suggest that a small explosion, caused by a device, had taken place.

There were no injuries and no damage caused. No evacuations were necessary.

The circumstances of the incident and of the device involved are still being established.

Police enquiries into the incident are are ongoing.
