Stabbing, Burrendale Park Road, Newcastle

Police in Newcastle are appealing for information following a stabbing incident in the Burrendale Park Road area on Friday, 20 February.

Shortly before 11:30pm a 22-year-old man had just left a friend's house when an unknown assailant attacked him from behind. The man received a stab wound to the left side of his ribs. He was able to make it back to his friend's home and was taken to hospital with a serious injury that is not believed to be life threatening.

Anyone who witnessed the attack or who has any information is asked to contact detectives at Downpatrick CID on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.

A 35-year-old man was later charged with attempted murder.   He will appear before Downpatrick Magistrates' Court on Monday 23 February.

As is normal procedure the charges will be reviewed by the PPS.
