Aggravated burglaries, Castlewellan

30 Jul 2009

Detectives in Lurgan are appealing for witnesses following an aggravated burglary in the Tullynasoo Road area of Castlewellan yesterday, Wednesday 29 July.

Around 2.25pm police received a report of a distressed female having been found by a member of the public. Enquiries revealed the woman, who’s in her late 70’s, had been confronted in her home by two men a short time earlier. They forced entry to the property before searching a room.

The woman struggled with the intruders who dragged her from her home and out into the road prior to leaving the scene. They fled in a dark coloured BMW 5 series, driven by a third male.

The woman received treatment in hospital for a hand injury and is extremely shaken following her ordeal.

Detectives are investigating a link with a similar incident which was reported around midday yesterday in the Armagh area.

They threatened the woman before leaving with a small sum of cash in a dark coloured, southern registered BMW car.

The female wasn't physically hurt but was very shaken following her ordeal.
