Murder, Newry

Detectives investigating the discovery of a man's body in Newry on the morning of Tuesday 7 July have launched a murder inquiry.

The body was found shortly before 12.55am, in a laneway at Upper Edward Street in the city.

Enquiries are at an early stage and investigating officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

They would like to speak to anyone who was in the area of Upper Edward Street, Monaghan Street or Railway Avenue on the morning of the incident, or the previous evening. They would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen an altercation or disturbance in those areas.
