Kidnap robbery, Belfast

05 May 2009

Police rescued four people as part of an operation against a so-called Tiger kidnap in Belfast on Tuesday, 5 May.

Officers freed three women and a man at 9.15am who were believed to have been held in a house during the night in Glen Parade in West Belfast.

Another man in the house had been forced by a criminal gang to go to his place of work in South Belfast and take cash from the premises.

He then followed the gang's instructions to deposit the money at a location in Greater Belfast.

When police were made aware of the kidnap, a full-scale operation was mounted with the primary objective to safely recover the hostages.

The four people in the house and the man who was forced to collect the money from his place of work are safe and unhurt. Investigations into the incident are continuing. Police are appealing for anyone with any information about activity in Glen Parade around 1am today to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
