Robbery cash in transit van, Newry

Police in Newry are investigating an armed robbery of a cash in transit van on the Belfast Road this morning (Wednesday 13 May).
Shortly after 7:15am the van was making a delivery to a filling station when the security guard was attacked by an unknown assailant who struck him on the arm with a baton. A substantial amount of money was taken.
The robber is described as 6ft tall and was wearing dark clothing, black wig and fake beard. He made off in a blue coloured VW Bora car registration number TE 03VSK, which has recovered a short time later in the McKinstry road area of Dunmurry.
Anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has any information about the getaway vehicle is asked to contact police at Newry on 0845 600 8000. Information can also be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
