Serious assault, Linenhall Street, Ballymena

Detectives in Ballymena are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault that occurred in the vicinity of the Town Hall in Linenhall Street at around 1am this morning (Sunday 24 May).
A 30 year old man sustained serious head injuries when he was assaulted by up to five males. The assailants then fled from Linenhall Street, down Bridge Street in the direction of Harryville. The victim remains in hospital at this time in a serious condition.
A 20 year old man was later arrested in the Ballymena area in connection with the assault and is currently assisting Police with their enquiries.
A motive for the assault is under investigation and police are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward. Anyone who witnessed the assault is asked to contact CID at Ballymena on 0845 600 8000, or information can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
