House search, Ballymena

15 Oct 2009

Illegal drinking den

Neighbourhood police officers supported by specialised officers from the PSNI’s tactical support group carried out a search of a house in the Drumtara area of Ballymena early on Sunday morning October 11.  The search was conducted in response to reports and concerns from local residents that an illegal drinking den was being operated from a house in the estate.

A number of items including a substantial quantity of alcohol, drinks optics, sound systems, an electronic game and till rolls have been seized for further examination.

Commenting on the matter, Chief Inspector Ryan Henderson the PSNI’s Area Commander for Ballymena said, “It is important that the community see that the police are here to support them and to take a stance against anti social behaviour and activities that lead to problems in the estate, and which create a fear of crime.  And, I would remind everyone that if they have any information regarding crime in their area that they owe it to themselves and to their community to pass that information on to the police so that it can be fully investigated.”

The telephone number to ring is 0845 600 8000.  Alternatively, information about crime can be passed anonymously to the Crimestoppers charity by calling 0800 555 111.
