Attempted ATM theft, Downpatrick
21 Oct 2009
Detectives in Downpatrick are investigating the attempted theft of an ATM machine at commercial premises on the Downpatrick Road in Ardglass that was reported shortly before 03.30am this morning, Wednesday 21 October.
It appears that up to 3 persons took a digger from a nearby construction site and attempted to steal the ATM machine from the wall of the premises. When police arrived on the scene, the engine of the digger was still running, however the culprits had fled. The ATM machine had been removed from the wall, causing considerable damage, but was left at the scene. It is not yet clear if anything was stolen.
